Wholly Heart
Amazing stuff happens when you have a hole in your heart. Recently doctors discovered a 6 centimeter hole in the heart of one of our friends. What you are looking at is a magnification of a section of her heart with spine and a couple of ribs visible. Also visible appear to be a set of concentric circles which in reality is part of a device called Amplatzer. The device is inserted like a stent via an artery or vein. Until it is in position, it is furled like an umbrella. At the point of deployment, where the hole is, it is unfurled and snugged into position. The patient is usually discharged the next day, as was our friend. The previous solution (and is still done) is open heart surgery. This is one of those everyday miracles.
